In 1988 I started line-breeding when I mated Star Chaser (Whirlwind's Daughter), my best breeding bitch to Pepper (West's son -Whirlwind and West being litter mates). They had nine puppies, seven girls and two boys. One boy went to Sweden where he had to spend four months in quarantine, but they like him very much. Seven of the puppies have already entered the show ring and got First prizes in our quality grading system. One of the girls, Choice Paparazzi, has already won a C.C. at the Afghan Specialty in Helsinki under Wendy Slatyer of the well known Calahorra Kennel in Australia.

In 1989 I mated Star Chaser's daughter, Ch Choice Sun Chaser, to Pepper and had two girls and four boys. Choice Heart Chaser I kept myself, a very lovely bitch with a real Afghan temperament. All these puppies were black masked reds. Believe me, I am very happy that these were the first two litters from which I could place all the puppies in real Afghan homes. Some of them had already had an Afghan from my kennel. In Finland, and maybe elsewhere too, it is not easy to find real y good homes where they understand and appreciate this lovely breed. It hurts me terribly when you care so much for the puppies, and then you find out that the family you sold it to is not the best one. I have taken some back, and have been lucky to find nice new families, but before that I have shed many tears. Once I kept four puppies at home until they were a year old, just because I wanted them to go to the right homes. Now they are all living with families who are real Afhgan lovers.

How did the prefix "Choice" come about?

The name I requested was actually 'Bon-Bon', and that was approved by the F.C.I. in 1977, but withdrawn in 1978 because it had been given to someone in Sweden ten years earlier and was, still in use. So I had to choose another name. On the day that I was going to the Kennel Club to discuss a new prefix, I passed a second-hand shop called Choice, and the spot on the letter was drawn like a silk hat. I thought that was a good omen, so my kennel got a "second hand" name. The shop doesn't exist any more!

What made you first start showing Afghans?

I had decided to become a breeder of Afghans, and therefore I wanted my foundation bitch to be a Champion. I believe if you do something you should aim for the top and only work with the best. In all things.
